Not a restaurant, not a family, not a job, not even a meaningful conversation.

Some people lead with it, some others are more rational. All of them, at some point, come to realize that in order to go on they will need to find their true purpose. They will hit a wall. Life happens.

This purpose, this REASON WHY they're doing it and why they're willing to face challenges, beat all odds or give it their best shot, doesn't necessarily have to be gradiloquent, like changing the world. It can be:

Sharing your dreams with someone, has a purpose, a reason why you do it. And that's love, in one way or another. Love has many facets. One of them is the one we all wish for Sydcarmy, but it's certainly not the only one.

In Sydcarmy's case what S3 showed us was how they went through a Purpose Crisis, which I went over → here and in a nutshell → here.

Both are going throught their own personal hell, but none of them remembers right now why exactly they are putting up with all of that shit. That's the crisis and the opportunity to re-purpose their entire relationship in order to carry on. If they fail to do this, they are gonna part ways and find purpose elsewhere, only if they're lucky. It doesn't always work like that... you'll see, purpose doesn't grow on trees. And very much like love, it can't be controlled, managed, it either exists or it just doesn't. Because love and purpose are inextricably intertwined concepts.

Love gives purpose and purpose cannot exist without love.

I'm one of the ones who advocates for communication, BUT it's not just any communication. Not anything is better than this:

GAME CHANGER: ONLY IF THERE'S A WILL → And for that they need to re-find/remember their purpose. Or even re-define it, if necessary. If their original purpose no longer serves them to be happy, they should re-signify it, which I went over HERE already and think will happen next season.

I actually have been reading the writing on the wall since before S3 happened because important and enough are not the same thing.

The other C word → Comprehension (granted not anyone can serve comprehension. I trust Sydcarmy, though).

I see them trying to communicate all the time, they are starting sentences and not finishing them. There's a lot going on under their surface at all times. They are mirroring each other, even in silence. And they have always had, and still have, unspoken communication.

Which is not enough but it's important.

They are just not on the same page right now because they are no longer understanding each other. I spotted that even before S3 premiered actually, it was painfully obvious and I mentioned it → here.

The catch: Understanding (can’t happen without communication).

They need to understand each other. At a conscious level. They still got it unconsciously, that’s why she hasn’t quit. She knows deep deep down. Carmy knows too, that he’s doing all of this for her and he doesn’t know it’s wrong because according to everything he learned, it is right.

But right now they just don’t understand why they are doing all of this (PURPOSE). It’s because they ❤️ each other, we know that but they don’t. Not consciously, anyway… They have to understand that and the rest will follow.

Communication without understanding is just noise.

So, basically what they need is effective communication to really understand each other and remember why they are doing this together. If they are no longer doing it for a star, for recognition, for success, for vindication, and only for each other because none of those even if achieved would mean shit unless they get them TOGETHER, then that needs to be their new purpose because if this crisis serves them to realize that all that matters is THE PEOPLE, then that's even better than winning a bullshit star. If they need to re-find the same purpose they originally had, which was:

His purpose:

To me Carmy's purpose is quite clear and fixed. It won't change because SYD IS HIS PURPOSE and to a certain extend he knows it. Regardless of how ready or not he's to admit it at this point (he's not there yet, unfortunately).

He keeps choosing her though → over and over.

Carmy has already made his purpose clear time and time again, whether Syd understands it or not (she doesn't yet, unfortunately).

Carmy shared his dream with her and before that he put her in charge of Mickey’s legacy, his most valuable asset (emotionally).

He's putting himself through hell to get her the star she wanted (not saying this is OK but this is what he did). He never wanted a Michelin Star restaurant, he wanted that restaurant to be THEIRS, that was enough for him, till this moment:

She's soooo much his whole purpose to do any of this that he made her partner, or is trying to.

She’s the only one he apologizes to without being told to, spontaneously, because she's his purpose to be a better person. A person that deserves her.

He created houndreds of menus for her, to rotate them every day, because his purpose is to give her that star, because she's his star.

He wants her to get some rest while he continues to work on a dish inspired by her polka dots headscarf and losing sleep, which is something he does every night, he stays there sleeplessly working on the menu, after everyone leaves.

He wants her by his side when he says goodbye to Ever, which means a lot to him.

His whole purpose is to share his life with her, in whatever shape or form that may take. In this case, that shape is The Bear, but they could re-signify that purpose if needed, to stay together if this is no longer working for them. He will let Syd make that call. Because he trusts her.

Her purpose:

We're yet to find out whether Syd will remember, find out, or re-signify her purpose, and once she does, she will decide and act out on it to either stay by his side or leave him. It all depends on her purpose or lack thereof. Whatever that might be. Whatever shape it takes moving forward.

My point is: What's clear right now is that they are not consciously making any choice based on purpose. That's the knot they gotta untie to break free from the vicious cycle they are now trapped in.

AITA because i (F, she/her, 22) kept starting fights with my younger half-sibling (NB, it/they, 19) when it came into my and our older sibling's (NB, they/them, 24) lives and started trying to take over the family business?

so for context, my dad had started a business that went very well until a national chain opened a branch near ours and almost put us out of business. the stress led to my dad passing away and the business is all but bankrupted now and currently run my older sibling.

in the years leading up to our dad's death, our older sibling was basically raised to fix the business and treated not like a person but as an object without a mind of their own. but even with that he was still our dad and cared about us in his own way.

i think that probably made things worse though as older sib was really effed up from all that and has had all sorts of physical and mental health issues because of both their upbringing and also the family business

now enter younger sibling. younger sibling showed up one day with plans to take over the family business from older sibling. now i don't want the business myself as i don't think i can handle it, but me and older sibling never knew it growing up so it just feels like younger sibling isn't good enough to fix the family business. at most it might be able to extend the death throes of the family business when the way i see things we should just let the family business die out...

so i kind of picked a fight with younger sibling over this... twice... but then around this time my older sibling's health has deteriorated to the point i'm willing to accept my younger sibling is capable enough to take on this hellish responsibility.

so all in all AITA for picking fights with my previously unknown younger half-sibling for trying to take over the family business after my older sibling was emotionally abused by dad and treated like they had no mind to think, no will to break, and no voice to cry suffering and is now unable to handle the family business themself?

Island Assistant Noah AU, where Noah got himself eliminated on purpose, but Chris + Chef somehow figure it out... The day after Noah's elimination, everyone is surprised to see that Noah's back... Chris reveals that inside the contestants' contracts: "Anyone who gets eliminated on purpose, will become Chris Mcclean's Assistant."... And Noah has to be decent at his job, or he won't get paid... Noah stays Chris' Assistant all throughout Island, Action and World Tour! 🌎 (I'm sorry if I'm asking this twice; I don't remember asking this!)

You did already ask me this and I did have an answer in the works to the original ask, but because Tumblr's mobile app is my number one enemy, I accidentally posted it. So, really, it's super fortunate that you asked this twice!

But! Because I'm a smart cookie, I took some screenshots of what I had typed out in the original post, so I can just re-type it out here and carry on! (I'd post just the screenshots, but they're full of typos because I'm just awful at typing on a phone.)

So, here's my answer:

Yes!! Give me a Noah who thought he was being so sneaky and cunning by intentionally getting himself eliminated, only for it to backfire horrendously!

The producers would've known that the contestants were being sent to Camp Wawanakwa instead of the resort their contract heavily implied they'd be going to, so they would absolutely anticipate at least one of them trying to pull a stunt like Getting Themselves Eliminated Intentionally- either as an act of defiance against the trickery (of Camp Wawanakwa not being what was advertised) or just to be spiteful.

Noah being the one to do so is just happenstance.

(It was more so expected from the likes of Duncan or Izzy, who are outwardly anti-authoritarian and not afraid to confront perceived injustices.)

If I may, I'd suggest having the contract outline that whoever intentionally gets themself eliminated has to work as a base-level intern, and that their "pay" is them working off whatever expenses the show invested into them as a competitor (travel costs, lodging, food, ect.). So Noah ends up stuck in the role of an unpaid intern for however long it takes him to "earn his keep" so to speak. But it's a Sisyphean task, since his debt is ever growing- he's forced to stay at Playa des Losers as an intern, and his daily cost of living is just added to the expenses he needs to work off.

At first, he'd be outright resistant to doing any of his tasks as an intern, because why should he? He didn't ask for the job, he didn't (knowingly) sign up for it either, and it's not like he's gonna be paid for his work. That is, until the producers threaten to pass his debt off to the rest of his family to "pick up his slack"; Noah's not heartless, and he cares a lot about his family, so he concedes to actually doing the work expected of him to save the rest of his brood from having to compensate for his short-sightedness.

(Let's say this turn of event takes about a week, meaning that from the time of his own elimination to the threat to his family's financial wellbeing, only Justin and Katie have been eliminated. Since, at least during Island, it's established that a challenge and subsequent elimination ceremony happens every three days.)

Now, the thing about lazy people- of which Noah undoubtedly is- is that they're downright innovative when it comes to figuring out shortcuts for any type of labour. Now that he's invested in doing his job, Noah uses that big brain of his to quickly figure out how to get all of his allotted tasks for the day completed to near-perfection, in a manner that's both efficient and easy. It gets to the point where he's completing a full day's work in an hour, spending the rest of the day doing what he loves; nothing. The other interns are just as annoyed as they are impressed.

Word quickly gets back to Chris about his miracle intern. But he's either too preoccupied to actually listen to who it is, or no one thinks to explain that his most productive labourer is the ex-competitor he'd contractually conned into the position.

Needless to say, Chris' interest is piqued.

The host issues a request to have the mystery intern shipped out to the island so they can work on the "important stuff" instead of doing menial tasks on the Playa, and is met with staunch refusal on their part. Which is odd, at least to Chris, since the interns send to be far too scared shitless of him (or, more notably, Chef) to ever outright deny a request like that.

It makes more sense when Noah's literally dragged kicking and screaming back to the island. Of course the only person ballsy enough to defy Chris' whims is the same contestant who got himself intentionally eliminated via deliberately pissing off his teammates. But he's back, now, so he might as well be put straight to work! No use in wasting labour, after all.

(Again, this probably happens over the course of a few days at most, since showbusiness is such a hectic and fast-paced line of work, so let's say that Tyler's the only new elimination in this timeframe.)

Again, Noah utilizes his higher-than-average smarts to figure out how to streamline his expected tasks because he's lazy, inadvertently proving himself as a Valuable Asset to both Chris and Chef since he's surprisingly good at what he does (even if what he does is very little by design). Chris is quick to offer Noah an ultimatum; he can either be promoted to being Chris' Personal Assistant, thus meeting the demands of his previous contract (and, of course, entering a new one under different pretences) and finally being paid for his work, or remain as an unpaid intern indefinitely and receive penalisation for his slacking off- since, despite the fact that he's gotten all of his work finished, he's still technically on the clock for the allotted work hours and should be acting as such instead of lazing about.

It's not really much of a choice. Noah reluctantly takes the promotion.

That's how he finds himself in the position we all know and love; Chris' Personal Assistant.

Because of his new promotion, he's expected to be at least within the vicinity of Chris at all (reasonable) times. The problem with that? Chris is hosting the show he got himself eliminated from in the most socially destructive way possible. Noah's now contractually forced to, at the very least, tiptoe around the prior teammates he knowingly and intentionally made hate him and dearly hope they don't notice him.

...Thus begins an AU's worth of shenanigans wherein Noah is desperately trying to fly under everyone's radar as an intern.

regardless of my opinions on how they handled claire and carmy i will say like...it is such valid "first relationship in your late twenties" representation. of course carmy is head over heels insane about her. she is the first good thing to happen to him and he has no way of knowing or believing it will ever happen to him again. of course he is dropping balls and isn't sure how to incorporate a relationship into his well-established life becuase he literally has no expirence doing that. he doesn't even know how to incorporate a FRIEND into his life that doesn't work with him or hasn't known him since birth. and of course carmen "self sabotage boy on fire ''you dug throwing up every day?'' knife tattoo "my family ruined everything that i enjoyed" berzatto is going to bail the second someone tells him he can't have it ?? like he already thinks that so of course he's going to take cicero's opinion to heart because here's this thing everyone else seems to know how to do that he doesn't and everyone is telling him that he's doing it wrong and don't fuck it up and but she's so nice like he's not nice?? idk i think he's being straight up stupid rn and i don't think the storyline was maybe written as well as i'd hope but also i don't think any of it was out of character as much as it was oddly handled to some extent

Some fun facts about Assistant Noah's suffering!

Because even though he's no longer a contestant, he still suffers...

*He started the job as one of Chris Mclean's overworked and underpaid interns.

*When he becomes Chris' personal assistant, he gets much better pay, but he's still usually overworked.

*Noah always tries his best to disguise himself with a wig and mask, while keep his distance away from the other contestants... but he can't help giving them a sassy or sarcastic line, at least once an episode.

*He had some close calls of people figuring out who he truly is, especially with Heather.

*He later get thrown in the sea water with Chris and Chef, getting rid of his disguise and showing everyone who he truly is... The contestants want to get mad for being tricked, but they decide that Noah being forced to work for Chris is punishment enough (except for Heather, cause she's a salty thing)... Half of the contestants feel sorry for Noah for becoming Chris Mclean's assistant, while the other half thinks it's hilarious.

*His only joy was watching the remaining contestants go through horrible challenges, while he watches safely from the sidelines (Chris won't give him the deadlier jobs that other interns have, because Noah's family would sue Chris, if Noah dies).

*Because Noah refused to chase the million-dollar case in the Total Drama Island Finale, he's forced to stay as Chris Mclean's assistant for Total Drama Action.

*As a result, Noah becomes even sassier with the contestants as they do the challenges and slowly gains more of a sadistic streak (thankfully, it's not as terrible as Chris's and Chef's sadism).

*When anyone tries to be super nice to him or Justin tries to flirt with him (so they can gain benefits), Noah would quickly shut them down and make it clear to everyone that he isn't gonna help them.

*When Chef forms an alliance with DJ, Noah warns Chef that Chris is gonna make the cook pay even the host ever finds out, but Chef doesn't listen and tries to bribe Noah (Noah refuses the bribe, but doesn't tell Chris, cause he's curious to see how long it takes before Chris learns the truth)... So when Chris does find out, Noah doesn't hesitate to give Chef a smug 'I told you so.'

*When Total Drama Action was over, Noah was finally free to leave his assistant job, but then Chris offers Noah double the pay, if he stays for Total Drama World Tour... some extra cash and seeing different places around the world... how can Noah possibly refuse?

*The only downsides are that Noah is expected to sing with the contestants, or else his pay gets decreased AND Noah must wear a cultural outfit, if Chris is wearing one (except in the Nigeria Falls Wedding Challenge, where instead he's a dress similar to Chef's dress).

*But the thing that bothers Noah the most about the World Tour is that he's forced to deal with a crazy fangirl and a smarter, more stubborn, spanish version of Justin that won't leave. him. alone.
